Experts say we have between 12,000 to 60,000 thoughts per day. That comes to an average of 25 thoughts per minute. It can be about life, love, passion, science, philosophy, anything. With so many thoughts rushing our way, we are bound to have life-changing thoughts multiple times in a day. But, that does not happen, does it? Most people do not venture out to think of new things, they keep reprocessing the same thoughts – mistakes of the past, worries of the future, and negativity. 
 
Dwelling on the past or worrying about the future, only work towards destroying the present moment. Imagine what you could achieve if you could control your thoughts and focus on the things that mattered, carve a better perspective towards life and make better decisions.

Write a Journal 
Many successful people in the World’s history including Albert Einstein, Winston Churchill, Mark Twain, and Benjamin Franklin had the habit of maintaining journals. 
 
When you write a journal, you are not just transforming your abstract thoughts into tangible words, but also infusing clarity in your life. This practice will create folders in your brain and help you first organize and then store information. You get to decide your priorities and make decisions after due diligence. 
 
Journaling will bring focus in your life. 
 
Trade Negatives for Positives 
That’s right! Science has proven that inculcating new habits can help you re-wire your brain. The power of your brain to adapt as per new training is called neuroplasticity. 
 
Let’ say, you started your day with a bad cup of coffee, and that was enough for you to decide that you were going to have a bad day. So, anything that happens after that, irrespective of how insignificant it is, you overthink and add it to your ‘bad day’ prophecy. If you make a habit of perpetuating negative thoughts, you train your brain to constantly rest on anger, anxiety, and stress when faced with a problem. However, when you pick problems apart, see them for what they are, and respond in a mature way, your brain develops differently. 
 
Once trained, your brain will start looking towards positives involuntarily. It will move towards making your calmer, stronger, and more confident. 
 
Make Decisions in the Morning 
Tough discussion with the boss, unpleasant mails from colleagues, and frustrating fights with the spouse happen. In such situations, our first reaction is to let our emotions take over. This can be dangerous and almost always leads to regret for the words we used or the decisions we made. 
 
So, back away from the situation, cool down and have a good night’s sleep. Once you wake up, your mind is refreshed. In the morning, you will instantly feel that the situation was not as bad as you initially thought. Also, your objectivity bounces back and you can see the pros and cons. This is the time that you make a decision. A decision you will be able to stick to and be proud of. 
 
Meditate 
Brain research has found that meditation can help deactivate the DMN (Default Mode Network) area of the brain that is responsible for what we call “mind chatter”. All you need to do is meditate 10-20 minutes a day. 
 
Once you have switched off the majority of random thoughts floating around in your brain, you gain more control. You can manage negative thoughts better, get rid of anxiety, reduce stress and live in the present.
